Each Grand Vintage is unique and expresses the Moët & Chandon Cellar Master’s personal interpretation of the year. The maturity of this Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage 2013 champagne – the 75th Grand Vintage in the House’s history – is immediately apparent.

Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage 2013 is a champagne marked by a late harvest. It encapsulates a year of waiting, a year of anticipation. The season shines through in its flavours and aromas, while its maturity is expressed through its autumnal notes, golden hue and persistent bubbles.

CLIMATE AND HARVEST REPORT

Whereas the first decade of the 21st century brought record early harvests, 2013 saw the grapes ripen in October, a lateness unseen since 1991. In fact, the entire growth cycle, from bud break to harvest, was delayed by two to three weeks due to the cold and wet weather.

The challenge to achieve a maturity that complied with the standards required in Champagne while also keeping the vines in perfect health. In this context, moderate volumes and meticulous sorting enabled a balance between sugar and acidity that exceeded the expectations of the cellar master.

BLEND

41% Chardonnay, 38% Pinot Noir, 21% Meunier

TASTING NOTES

Each Grand Vintage is unique, expressing Moët & Chandon’s Cellar Master’s personal interpretation on the year. The 75th Grand Vintage in the House’s history, this 2013’s maturity is immediately apparent.

Light golden yellow colour with fine, persistent bubbles.

The wine’s maturity is immediately apparent with autumnal notes of roasted chestnuts, toasted buckwheat, honey and nougat. Concentrated fruit aromas are then revealed, like a lemon preserved in salt or a perfectly ripe nectarine. A note of dried flowers completes the aromatic bouquet.

The palate is direct and energetic. supported by lively yet delicate acidity, and a finely polished structure. The wine finishes with a pleasant hint of white grapefruit bitterness.

MATURATION

The presence of coloured reflection on the glass of the bottle is evidence of long years of maturation. (5 years minimum) in the chalky atmosphere the Moët & Chandon ancestral cellars. The bottle you may have in your possession may show these signs of the maturation process. It has absolutely no incidence on the quality of the Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage 2013 champagne and on the contrary, embodies proof of all the patience implemented by Moët & Chandon, further than the minimum legal standards, to develop the aromatic complexity of their wines.
